The 10 cutest animals in America’s National Parks

The time has come: close followers of this blog have undoubtedly seen my quest to name the cutest animal in every national park. The task was so big it took three separate posts, complete with cute pictures, baby lambs, and butt jokes: Acadia to Guadalupe Mountains, Haleakalā to Olympic, and Petrified Forrest to Zion. If you haven’t read those, you should go catch up. Warning: you will exceed your daily recommended value of cuteness.

However, this entire time I have had to withhold the very cutest of the cute. This was because my final Top 10 list was being saved for a piece in Backpacker magazine. Well, today is the day, your suspense is over, Backpacker ran the piece and now you can finally find out what the Top 10 Cutest Animals in America’s National Parks are by clicking HERE.

For copyright reasons I cannot post the final list here, but trust me, you really, really, really should click the link. IT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY.

    1. What do we have there? It looks like either a little island fox or a gray fox– it’s so hard to tell the difference when they are pups. Regardless choosing between foxes is an impossible choice, so I just went with the one with the biggest ears!

A little inside baseball here– when I do professional stuff I always choose images that are copyrighted for reuse, which usually really limits the images I can use. That probably shouldn’t impact lists like these, but it invariably does. If that hadn’t been a constriction I probably would have used this pic: http://www.wildlifeheritage.org/gallery/san-joaquin-kit-fox/

      1. Island fox 😀 But the san joaquin foxes are so cute too! I’m partial to island foxes because one was begging for food from me at Catalina. But I was thrilled to see a tortoise included. Those are cute too and don’t get enough love imho.
